Samuel Agar Everitt
Passed away on June 15, 2018
Samuel Agar Everitt, 78, died, June 15th, 2018. He was born on September 20th, 1939 in Boston, MA to Raymond and Helen Everitt. He attended the George School in Newtown, PA and graduated from Colgate University in 1961. He served in the NJ National Guard following his graduation. The majority of Sam’s professional career was spent at ITT Rayonier, Inc where he worked as Vice President and Treasurer. He then applied his skills in the not-for-profit sector, becoming the Assistant Business Manager at the Kent School in Kent, CT in 1990, a role he served until his retirement in 1999.
Sam married his best friend and high school sweetheart Kate “Kay” Prior in 1962 in Trenton, NJ. They initially settled in Mahwah, NJ where they raised their two children, James Everitt and Kate Everitt Denious. In 1977 the family moved to Wilton, CT where they lived until 1999 when Sam and Kay retired to Skidaway Island in Savannah, Georgia. Their summers were spent in Bay Head, NJ.
“Sambo”, as he was known to his close friends and grandchildren, could either be found in his golf clothes or wearing his toolbelt. He was an avid woodworker, taking great pride in his creations which included anything from fences to backgammon tables. His most devoted charity was the Barn Builders where he spent most Mondays building and repairing projects at the Bethesda Academy for Boys in Savannah, GA. A New Englander at heart, Sambo cherished his time with friends and family in Winhall, Vermont. He was an outdoorsman, who loved skiing, working in the woods and reading by the fire.
Sambo is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kate Prior Everitt, sister Rae Eastman, son James Raymond Everitt, daughter Kate Everitt Denious and seven grandchildren: George, Henry, James and William Everitt of Sun Valley, Idaho; and Eliza, Peter and Grace Denious of Wilton CT. He was preceded in death by his sister Jeanne Richardson and brother Charles “Cheebie” Everitt.

Sam was just the best. Sam and Kay were among the first people to welcome us to Savannah. He made me laugh, put up with my golf, asked about the kids, and enjoyed his life. He gave to the community in so many ways, and to all of us who were privileged to call him our friend. A terrible loss to Kay and the Everitt family. But a life truly well lived.
